The CSHL synthetic biology summer course provides access to sophisticated, cutting edge instruments thanks to generous partnerships with biotechnology sponsors. One of the instruments being used this year is the Labcyte Echo liquid handler/ dispenser. The instrument is run by software that allows the user to scan a pattern (image), which is then translated into machine language, which then instructs the liquid handler to deposit droplets of bacterial culture onto a growth substrate (agar).
Today, the class tested the machine with a challenging pattern. Mission accomplished!
